The museums here are famous and are some of the main tourist attractions. In fact you must visit at least one of the museums to really visit Amsterdam (our pick is the Van Gogh Museum - we loved it!)

We decided to visit this museum, even though we aren't big museum people. We were so happy we did and really enjoyed it. There is something about being amongst these priceless pieces of history that is peaceful to me.
Go early and when you walk into the museum, make sure you go straight to the paintings you are most interested in, otherwise you may never get close to it as it can be really busy in the summer months.
The extra 5 euro for the audio tour is worth it if you are interested in the history of Van Gogh, or sign up for one of the English Tours at the reception desk in advance (maximum 15 visitors).
The Van Gogh Museum hours are from 10 am to 6 pm daily, but is open late on Fridays - till 10 pm.
Buy your tickets before you get to any of the Amsterdam museums to avoid the long line ups. You can include your admission ticket with many of the canal cruises, which may also include a skip the line pass (in the busy months this is so worth it!).
Your hotel may sell tickets or better yet go as part of a tour that includes tickets to the one of the Amsterdam Museums. You can also purchase them online from the museum.
One of the most moving experiences I have ever had. Don't miss out on visiting the Anne Frank House and learning the history and stories of this brave girl during World War II.
Enjoy amazing food, art and culture in the tulip capital of the world. Take a walk on the wild side in the Red Light District, or just sit on a patio on a canal watching the world go by.
