Map of Paris France and How to Get Around

Paris is a beautiful, historic and to be honest, old city. This means that as it developed over time, it grew outwards. That can make the city look complicated at first. This is why checking out a map of Paris will make your trip planning so much easier. It is quite easy to get around the city, you just have to do your homework first.

As Paris is made up of about 20 districts or neighborhoods, with the Seine running down the middle. Dividing the city into the Right Bank and the Left Bank. Most of what you will want to see (especially if this is your first visit) is in the center of the city.

It is relatively easy to get around by foot, metro or even segway (we took a great tour on one to see the city and absolutely loved it!).

Getting Around with a Map of Paris France

Paris is a relatively easy city to get around for visitors.

You have a few options for finding your way to the best attractions. With a map of Paris France in hand, and a little planning, you will be able to see a surprising amount in a relatively short period of time.

  1. Walk - This is our favorite way to see the city. Make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes and a general idea of where you are going and you are all set. Sometimes the best memories come from finding those little out of the way spots when you thought you were lost! Besides that walking is great to counteract all of those yummy pastries I am sure you will enjoy.

  2. The Metro - 300 stations and nearly 300 km of track you can get anywhere quite easily. It runs from 5 am to 12:30 am and you can purchase tickets for each trip based on zones that you are travelling in, or a 1, 2, 3 or 5 day pass (Carte Moblis) for tourists and come and go as you please (you will need a a passport to purchase this). The tourist passes are handy if you are taking the metro 6-8 times in the day. For more information on how to use the system, check out the Metro website.

This is a cute video I found that will explain how the Metro passes work:

  3. Boat - Ferry up the Seine with 6 stops at the major attractions.

  4. Taxis - Finding one isn't usually a problem, as there are taxi stands in most areas of the city. If their sign is lit up then they are free and you can tag one down on the street. They are not that expensive, and are the best way to get around when the Metro is closed. We used taxis and didn't have a problem. Hold on tight though, the driving in Paris can get quite hairy!

  5. Rent a Car - Don't bother -it is expensive as is parking, and to be honest, unless you have experience driving in this city, it will be quite scary.

  6. Biking - You can rent bikes throughout the city. They have a program called Velib and you can rent a bike in one location and drop in at another one throughout the city. You can buy one day or 7 day tickets. Otherwise a lot of tour companies offer bicycle tours of Paris.

Don't forget to see the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower when in Paris. I know sounds silly to say, but they really are worth the visit. Just make sure you plan for them otherwise they may be so busy and you may be disappointed. And don't forget your map of Paris France!
