Universal Studios Hollywood is one of the most popular attractions in Los Angeles California. We visited it over Christmas while on a family vacation to San Diego, LA and Las Vegas.
If you are visiting during busy times - like the day after Christmas as we did - and you don't want to spend all day waiting in lines (like we almost did) then I would recommend the VIP experience from Viator. You can also buy this at the park but they limit the amount of VIP passes at one time so if you don't get your tickets early then you many miss out on this experience.
We ended up paying about double the admission price to get the "Front of the line pass" which allowed us to skip the lines on all attractions. As it took us 1 1/2 hours to just buy our admission tickets, this was a no brainer for us.
The Front of the line Pass gave us access to all rides and attractions, and special seating at the shows. It cost almost twice as much, but we figured we would rather spend the money then spend all day waiting in more lines.
The VIP experience would have been even better however, as it included much more "pampering". It includes a 6 hour guided tour and the skip the line feature for all rides and attractions. You get an in-depth tour of the famous backlots, valet parking, a gourmet lunch (YAY you can avoid the outrageous lines at the restaurants), a walkthrough of a working sound stage, to see famous movie sets closed to the general public, a tour of the set lighting department and other areas of the studio.
So if you are thinking of visiting Universal Studios California, seriously consider the VIP experience from Viator. Order it ahead of time to make sure that you get your passes and you may even save some money!
OMG just looking at those crowds makes me want to run and hide! How much is the VIP experience?

Hi there Yes the crowds were crazy I would totally advise the VIP experience - depending on where you purchase it from it is just over $200 each. Viator offers if for about $230.
