There is no better way to get a feel fora country, without actually going there, then by watching videos on that country. Since Australia is so large, there is a good chance that you won't get to see the whole country, or even all the best places to visit, in the time that you will have there (unless you are planning on taking a really long trip or "gap year").
Before we took our first vacation to Oz as a family, I wanted to get Warren and Montana to get a feeling for it, and for Montana (who was 13 at the time) to get excited about it (before we went and watched the videos she didn't quite understand where we were going). This was our first big trip together as a family. I had lived in Melbourne before and loved it, so I wanted them experience a little before we went.
I went to Amazon.com and found some great videos. I chose the Reader's Digest - Australia the Beautiful, Globe Trekker , and Discovery Atlas: Australia Revealed. They really enjoyed seeing them, although I may have overdone it a little, 5 hours of video is a bit much! That's why the smaller videos you can find online are better. You can get a sense without overdoing it!
